The Teyana Taylor Body Goals: My Journey to Losing 20 pounds

If you haven't seen the new video by Kanye West, Fade, featuring Teyana Taylor, just google it! (It's a bit NSFW) But it's everywhere! Seeing Teyana Taylor on the VMA's has thrown my motivation into Sonic the Hedgehog mode! I looked at her performance with my mouth open with excitement and disappointment in myself. Look, I know all women's body's are different and that we should not compare, but I seriously had to take a long look in the mirror and realize that I am not the size I want to be. Teyana Taylor and I have one thing in common: We both had babies last year, therefore I should not have any excuses to getting myself back into the shape I loved.

So this made me evaluate my health and nutrition. It truly sucks. I eat fast food too much. I don't drink water as much as I should. I don't work out regularly. I love cookies. All of this needs to change. I need to be healthy for myself and for my family.  I know I'm basing this off of seeing Teyana's beautiful body, but she truly is motivation for a new mom trying to make changes with her body.

I've always been an athletic person. I played basketball and volleyball throughout junior high, high school and college, so I know what it takes to get in shape. I think for me, I need a big push and motivation. Playing sports, I always had a coach to yell, "Come on! You can do this! Push Harder!" The motivation part is tough! It's more to do with being disciplined. I'll be pumped up and tell myself that I'll wake up and do my workout, but when morning comes, I will hit that snooze button and push that planned workout to the next morning...then the next morning..then the next, until it doesn't happen. *Sigh*

My Plan

I am very serious about changing my food intake. I know that is one of the main reasons I feel so fatigued and of course out of shape, so NO MORE FAST FOOD! As much as I love Chick-fil-a waffle fries with honey mustard, I have to give it up. For the first 9 days, I will be doing the Dr. Ian Smith Fat Smash Diet detox. That means NO: 

  • Bread
  • Meat
  • Cheese
  • Nuts
  • Refined Sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee
  • Sodas

This will eliminate all the bad foods and jump start my body into gear. I've done this detox before and I lost 7 pounds with light workouts. Its hard, I'm not going to lie, but it really helps your body start over and you will feel refreshed.

I know what you're probably thinking, "Well, what the heck are you going to eat?" Any amount of fruits and vegetables, except red and white potatoes. I think smoothies will be my best friend because I can have all the fruit I want blended for creamy goodness! Vegetables can be consumed raw, lightly steamed or lightly grilled with up to 2 teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil per day. Other things that can be eaten during detox:

  • Low- or nonfat yogurt
  • Milk or soy milk (I don't drink milk, but I do drink Almond Milk)
  • Cooked beans
  • Brown rice/grits/oatmeal/cream of wheat
  • Spice & Herbs (for seasoning veggies)
  • All the water you want (of course)

I will be working out during this detox, but I'm not going to go extremely hard, yet. During this time, its good to work out at least 5 out of the 9 days doing light 30 minute aerobic workouts, but I think I'll be working out 7 of the 9 days. Walking for 20 minutes after eating dinner also helped, too. So this will be a "to be continued" post. I wanted to start off with the detox portion and document this process and update everyone with my progress. Now, let's get to the uncomfortable part. My current weight.. I'm


OMG!!! Many people say I don't look like I'm this size because of my height. I'm 5'9, so the weight is not that visible, but I feel every bit of those unwanted pounds. The sluggishness and fatigue lets me know how bad I need this weight off of me. I plan on starting this detox and work out plan 9/1/2016 and I'll do an update blog post on 9/10/2016 about the changes I felt and how much weight I lost! Pray for me!!!

P.S. I do want to say that I am not doing any extreme dieting. The only thing I'm doing is the detox for 9 days and afterwards eating healthy foods and more exercising. I do know my body type is nothing like Teyana's, I'm just admiring her as a new mom and her journey.
